Beliefs
Belief is the state of mind in which a person thinks something to be the case, with or without there being empirical evidence to prove that something is true with factual certainty. Beliefs are formed throughout our lives based on things we see, hear or read. They are often formed in childhood to serve us and protect us, by effecting our behaviour and our decisions in order to keep us from potential harm or keep us in a state of comfort and safety. However, often beliefs can be based on false information or be the result of misinterpretation, and in many such cases they do not serve us well. These are what coaches call "unresourceful beliefs". Unresourceful beliefs lead to unresourceful behaviour, which is often at the root of issues that clients bring into a coaching session. Beliefs (i.e. "Unresourceful Beliefs") can be coached in many ways and knowing how to do so effectively should be a cornerstone of any coaching practice.
